  29. ========================================
  30. These are the some of the more common problems related to
  31. the use of Microsoft Windows (WINOS2) running under OS/2-2.0.
  32. .
  33. === GENERAL WINDOWS INFORMATION ===

  35. **Problem**
  36. Windows 3.1 does not run under OS2-2.0.
  37. **Solution**
  38. Windows 3.10.  Microsoft Windows 3.10 and some applications
  39. that will only run with Windows Version 3.10 cannot run on
  40. under OS/2-2.0.  Windows 3.10 cannot be run either under a
  41. OS/2-2.0 Dos Session or a OS/2-2.0 VMB.  Windows Version 3.10
  42. may be available under a future version of OS/2-2.0, but the
  43. release date of this is unknown at this time.
  44. .
  45. **Problem**
  46. Migrated Windows Applications do not run correctly.
  47. **Solution**
  48. The OS/2-2.0 Migration Utility does not migrate application
  49. INI files.  Some applications will not run correctly if settings
  50. in either the WIN.INI or (app).INI file are not set correctly.
  51. Therefore many of the initial problems users have with Windows
  52. applications are because of the lack of INI files in the
  53.  OS2 MDOS WINOS2 directory.  If the user installed OS/2-2.0 over
  54. DOS/WIN 3.0 the new WIN.INI file in the WINOS2 directory should
  55. be OK.  If the user installed OS/2-2.0 over DOS/WIN 3.1 the
  56. new WIN.INI file will not contain any settings from ther older
  57. 3.1 WIN.INI files.  The easiest way to tell a user to correct
  58. this problem is to reinstall the Windows Application from
  59. using WINOS2.  Another possible solution is to copy the
  60. (app).INI file in the old windows directory to the WINOS2
  61. directory.Coping the (app).INI file will not work in all
  62. instances.
  63. .
  64. NOTE: The mini-applications supplied with Windows
  65. 3.1 will NOT work from any 3.0 environment, including
  66. winos2. This is because these applications use new
  67. features of Windows 3.1 not available in 3.0. By way of
  68. example, 'Cardfile' will not run under winos2.
  69. **Problem**
  70. Full screen Window or Seamless Windows not starting.  This
  71. problem can be verified by typing WIN from a Full Screen DOS
  72. session.  This will show a Fatal Error 0x401 error.
  73. **Solution**
  74. This problem is caused by one of the drivers or sys files
  75. listed in the Windows SYSTEM.INI file not loading correctly.
  76. This could because the actual file is not present, or that
  77. the driver does not fully load when Windows starts up.  To
  78. correct this problem the user can try reinstalling WINOS2
  79. by doing a selective install of OS2.  Another more timely
  80. solution is to copy the SYSTEM.INI file in the WINOS2
  81. directory to a printer and verify that each of the drivers or
  82. system files actually exists.

  84. CLIPBOARD PROBLEMS
  85. .
  86. **Problem**
  87. The clipboard is extremely slow when running Windows.  MS Excel
  88. is exceeding slow when cutting or pasting to the clipboard.
  89. **Solution**
  90. Most applications that copy information to the clipboard copy
  91. data in multiple formats.  In the case of Excel, 16 different
  92. formats.  When the Windows clipboard is public, the computer
  93. must do addtional conversion of data to the OS2 clipboard.  The
  94. solution to this is that if the customer can make the Windows
  95. clipboard private, the speed of cutting and pasting will be no
  96. different than that of normal Windows.  The only problem with
  97. this is that anything copied from the Windows session cannot be
  98. pasted to OS2 unless clipboarddata is exported and when trying
  99. to paste data copied from an OS2 session, another WINOS2 session
  100. or a DOS Session, data must be imported.  The only way to make
  101. a WINOS2 seamless session private is to make a permanent change
  102. removing lines starting the clipboard from the WINOS2 SYSTEM.INI
  103. file.  This is being worked on for a fix.
  104. Remove !clipos2 from the 3 lines in the SYSTEM.INI..
  105. **Problem**
  106. NLS (National Language Support) OS/2-2.0 version cannot use
  107. clipboard data when copying from PM or DOS and paste in Windows.
  108. This problem has been verified in German and Swedish versions.
  109. **Solution**
  110. There is no workaround at this time.  APAR# PJ04066.

  115. OLELIB.DLL and DDELIB.DLL dynamic libaries are not included with
  116. OS/2-2.0.  Some applications require these DLLs to use
  117. OLE(Object linking and Embedding) or DDE(Dynamic Data Exchange).
  118. **Solution**
  119. Most applications using these DLLs include these DLLs on their
  120. installation disk.  These DLLs should be copied to the WINOS2
  121. directory.  These DLLs are included with Windows 3.1 and will
  122. work on WINOS2.

  131. 4029 printer driver does not work.  "Cannot find 300.DRV" error
  132. message appears.
  133. **Solution**
  134. Have the user delete the printer driver from the Windows Control
  135. panel.  Then reinstall the driver from the Windows Control
  136. Panel.  This will correct the WIN.INI file with the printer
  137. driver information necessary to run correctly.  This will be
  138. fixed in a future release of OS/2-2.0, however close any calls
